## Digger

Digger was created by Rob Sleath / Windmill Software in 1983. This browser experience runs **Digger Remastered (DOS)** by Andrew Jenner, with `/C` selecting the classic CGA graphics. It is the established DOS reconstruction of the game, not the original 1983 floppy-disk executable and not a newly implemented JavaScript game.

The executable is unmodified. Downloaded 2026-10-10 from the [Digger project's download page](https://www.digger.org/download.html):

- [DOS binary archive](assets/digger.zip), upstream: https://www.digger.org/digger.zip. Contains `DIGGER.EXE` (58,835 bytes, archive date 1999-05-06) and the original `digger.txt` instructions.
- [Source archive](assets/digsrc.zip), upstream: https://www.digger.org/digsrc.zip. Upstream's published source package includes Andrew Jenner's copyright notice and GNU GPL version 2 or later terms in `digsrc.txt`. The source package has later 2004 revisions; exact corresponding 1999 binary source equivalence has not been established.

The complete unmodified game and source archives, including all upstream documentation, are available with the site. High scores use the native game's browser-backed DOS filesystem. This wrapper does not change gameplay or read/submit scores to a shared leaderboard.

## Emulator

Vendored js-dos 6.22 / DOSBox runtime, reused byte-for-byte from this workspace's Supaplex project:

- `vendor/js-dos/js-dos.js`
- `vendor/js-dos/wdosbox.js`
- `vendor/js-dos/wdosbox.wasm.js`
- [Bundled GPL license](vendor/js-dos/LICENSE)

Upstream project and source: https://github.com/caiiiycuk/js-dos and https://github.com/caiiiycuk/dosbox.

## Room artwork

The room is newly generated for this browser presentation using the built-in image generation tool. It is separate from Digger's authentic in-game graphics. The prompt and asset details are retained in `docs/ROOM-ART.md`.

## Development tools

Local browser QA uses the installed GStack browse CLI and its Playwright browser. No test tooling is shipped in the static build. The game and build have no npm dependencies.
